What is Iskcon?
ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, is a worldwide spiritual organization rooted in the teachings of the ancient Vedic scriptures of India, especially the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. It is dedicated to sharing the practice of bhakti-yoga—the path of devotion and loving service to God, understood as Lord Krishna.
ISKCON was founded in 1966 in New York City by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who brought the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition from India to the West. Through his guidance, ISKCON grew into a global movement with temples, farms, schools, and communities across many countries.
The goal of ISKCON is to help individuals develop a personal and loving relationship with Krishna through practices such as chanting the Hare Krishna mantra, studying sacred texts, and leading a life centered on compassion, self-realization, and spiritual growth. Ultimately, it seeks to promote peace, harmony, and a deeper understanding of the soul beyond material identity.
